The Saskatchewan Amateur Photography Competition, affectionately named SaskAm, a province-wide competition hosted by the Regina Photo Club, returns by popular demand in 2011. This competition brings together amateur photographers and photo enthusiasts from across the province. The 29th Annual Saskam competition will be held at the Golden Mile Shopping Centre from May 6th to 14th, 2011.
Approximately 150 entrants are expected to enter around 800 photographs. In previous years nearly 500 people per day visited the exhibit. In 2009, 3.3 million digital cameras were sold in Canada as well as 2.2 million rolls of film. This is a popular exhibit and considering digital camera sales and rolls of film sold clearly demonstrates the interest in taking photographs.
The week will showcase photographs in the categories of: Landscapes and Seascapes, Macro and Close-ups, Animals, Plants and Flowers, People – Candid, Portrait/Fashion/Glamour, Altered Reality, Open and a Youth category for persons under 18. The theme category for 2011 is Mothers.
Photographs will be judged May 8th and awards will be presented on Saturday, May 14, 7:00 p.m. at a reception to be held at the Golden Mile Shopping Centre.
